La Folia and radio broadcastings?

Excellent broadcasting which unfortunately can not be heard any more on their website in ram-format. I could not imagine that the history of La Folia could be told so well in only 8 minutes with lots of relevant examples and a performance of Vivaldi's 'La Folia' Variations performed by Italian violinist Enrico Gatti and the Ensemble Aurora in Studio 4A. The page dedicated to the program itself gives also a small introduction to the Folia-theme. Highly recommended.

This broadcasting is also highly recommended. A very short story of the Folia with some fundamental musical examples of the bassline and melody on the piano, fragments of Folias by composers as Corelli, Beethoven, Liszt and Vangelis.

Die "Folia" oder "Follia" ist nicht einfach nur das bekannte Stück von Corelli. Der Begriff bezeichnet viel mehr. Ursprünglich stammt "la folia" einerseits von der iberischen Halbinsel. Dort beruht der wilde Folia-Tanz auf einer erstmals im 15. Jahrhundert belegten Tradition. Andererseits bezeichnet "Folia" auch eine harmonisch-melodische Formel, die als Ostinato mit Variationssätzen in der Melodie von vielen Komponisten im Laufe der Jahrhunderte aufgegriffen wurde. Durch die meist achttönige Basslinie, die für den Verlauf des Stücks wichtiger ist als die Melodie selbst, steht "la folia" der Form der Chaconne und der Passacaglia sehr nahe. Wir haben nachgeforscht, was wirklich hinter der Wildheit und dem "Wahnsinn" (folia, ital.: = Wahnsinn, Tollheit) der Melodie steckt und wie der Tanz Folia die Entwicklung der Variationsform Folia beeinflusst hat bzw. in welchem Zusammenhang die beiden zueinander stehen.
